Ayurvedic and Herbal
In Sri Lanka Ayurveda medicine is based on the country’s centuries old treasure trove of indigenous knowledge base, natural environment and cultural repertory. According to archeological evidence, human civilisation dates back 30,000 years. Cave men of that age domesticated many wild plant varieties and used them for food and medicines.

Known as Kottamba in Sri Lanka and more commonly referred to as Indian Almond or the Umbrella Tree worldwide, Terminalia catappa is a large tropical tree native to Asia. The leaves of the tree are large, long, and broad, with a leathery texture, and they avarage length from 12cm to 18cm. Rich in beneficial compounds, these leaves are used in various herbal medicines in some countries for different health purposes. Lakpura’s dehydrated Terminalia catappa leaves are handpicked from Sri Lankan home gardens and are 100% natural.
Kottamba or catappa leaves are widely used by aquarium owners for their positive effects, particularly in conditioning water by lowering pH levels and reducing metal content. For many years, fish breeders have used these leaves, as they can be effective against certain bacterial pathogens and parasites. Known for their mild antibacterial and antifungal properties, the leaves absorb water and can remain in the tank until fully dissolved.
