Your pottery experience begins in the village of Kumbalgama near Weligama, where you will be welcomed into a traditional home workshop. Here, skilled artisans introduce you to the art of Sri Lankan Mati pottery, a craft that dates back to ancient times and continues to thrive in local communities.
During the session, you will observe the complete pottery-making process, from preparing raw clay to shaping it on the wheel and sun-drying before firing. You will also have the opportunity to try making your own pottery, gaining a hands-on understanding of this traditional craft.
This workshop is suitable for all skill levels and offers an immersive cultural experience. As the pottery pieces made by participants require about 3 to 4 weeks to fire, you will receive a handcrafted piece as a memorable takeaway from this unique experience.
